"Learning to code allows students to change the world. we get them to take the first step." ~SRND I was forwarded this information about studentrnd or srnd while researching some information about https://www.codercamps.com. John Bernard from coder camps was very helpful in providing me information about getting myself and the kids on the right path to learning how to code! I am taking a tour of coder camps on June 8th and will let you know how that goes soon! I can't wait to check this all out and wanted to share this with everyone I know, especially in our gaming community. Studentrnd has a summer camp event called codebreak for $5! this is an amazing deal and ROI (return on investment) could be so huge! Just imagine the possiblities that can spur from opening the door to new and exciting things for you, your friends, and kids too! ~RaRaRax With summer coming up, we've heard from many students who don't have plans. Summer camps are always a great option, but most signups are already closed, and they might not work if you have other commitments. That's why we created CodeBreak, a three-week semi-virtual summer program for students who want to make cool apps/games. It takes place June 26 to July 14, but registrations close on June 19. We'll match you up with a mentor and help you build a game or app over three weeks. It's semi-virtual, so you can participate no matter where you live. We'll try to match you with a local mentor, but most events are online. All students are welcome, even if you just started coding. You can work alone or with a group. CodeBreak costs just $5 for the entire summer, which will help us do a high-quality job of recruiting mentors and producing workshops. What does StudentRND or SRND do?
CodeDay is a nationwide event where students design and code games and apps in only 24 hours. Hosted 3 times a year in up to 38 cities simultaneously, CodeDay sparks an interest in Computer Science by showing high school and college students how creative and empowering coding can be. Many organizations exist to teach students to code, but StudentRND — the non-profit which runs CodeDay — designed its flagship program to generate excitement for coding in students with no existing interest through an unusually creative and fun event format. Students start on Saturday afternoon by pitching their ideas for projects to the entire group. Other students choose the ideas they consider the most fun, and these newly-formed teams work for 24-hours to bring the ideas to life. In addition to hosting workshops and mentoring students, CodeDay staff also run fun activities throughout the night, like karaoke and "no-hands" programming contents. Before the event ends on Sunday morning, all students show what they made. Exceptional ResultsHalf of CodeDay attendees have no prior coding experience, but over 80% are still programming three months later. Because so many attendees had no prior interest, 40% of students who attend CodeDay are female and 28% are African-American or Hispanic — more than double the industry average. StudentRND has been improving and expanding CodeDay since 2009. Starting from one event in Seattle, CodeDay expanded to cover the West Coast by 2013 and the entire US in 2014. StudentRND now operates CodeDay in 38 cities nationwide on three weekends a year: on Veteran's Day weekend in November, President's Day weekend in February, and the third weekend in May.
